Nick Wyke Environment

I am a student in Environmental Management and Sustainability at the University of Plymouth, and my current studies revolve around ways we can continue to feed a growing world population whilst working in harmony with nature. I am also a passionate adovcate of communicating science and research topics through video, song and music.

On the site you can find out about my study interests and see some examples of my COMMUNICATION PIECES. On this page, you'll find information about Agroforestry, which is the main theme of my website, some information about me, and a contact form so you can GET IN TOUCH to chat about any themes here that interest you, or if you'd like to talk about communication work.

Or, you can visit the LINKS AND REFERENCES page for more information about the science behind Agroforestry.

Agroforestry

My current main study area is in Agroforestry or "Farming with Trees".

Agroforestry is an ancient skill, practiced by the Mayans in their Forest Gardens, Romans grazing pigs under trees for "pannage" and even by 18th Century landowners allowing deer to roam free in pasture land. Growing trees with crops is known as "silvo-arable" farming, and grazing animals under trees is "silvo-pastoral". In the modern world, there is evidence that Agroforestry can help combat climate change, reduce pollution and erosion and even benefit biodiversity!

To find out more about this exciting agricultural practice,

you can visit the LINKS AND REFERENCES page

for information from 3rd parties, or go to the

COMMUNICATION PIECES page to see examples of

videos, songs and

press-releases I have created on the subject

About me...

I am a mature student, with a lifelong passion for the natural environment and sustainability. I have worked in arboriculture and landscaping, practiced organic gardening for many years and have investigated ideas around permaculture and circular flows in food production. My career for the last 25 years has been as a professional musician and teacher, and I have toured across the world playing the traditional music of the British Isles, especially music from England. I have long been a songwriter and communicator and have content across social media and websites, including my

NICK WYKE MUSIC website and YOUTUBE CHANNEL.

I live in North Devon and have 2 young children

who help keep my narrative skills honed, as story-telling

is an important part of our interactions!

I am a keen amateur photographer and all the

images on this website are my own unless otherwise stated.
